Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

The Binghamton Mets jumped out to an early lead, but the Connecticut Defenders scored eight unanswered for an 8-3 win at NYSEG Stadium Sunday. The B-Mets have lost four of five.

Jonathan Malo put Binghamton (53-47) ahead 1-0 with a second-inning homer off Ben Snyder. Snyder walked Jose Coronado, Daniel Murphy and Caleb Stewart to load the bases in the third before Salomon Manriquez delivered a single that brought in Coronado and Murphy for a 3-0 B-Mets lead.

Connecticut (51-49) got a run back on Adam Witter's RBI double off Salvador Aguilar in the fourth before taking the lead for good in the sixth. Aguilar (10-3) allowed a solo homer to Pablo Sandoval before Dave Maroul and Kyle Haines picked up an RBI single and two-run double, respectively, off Eric Brown.

The Defenders added three more off Edgar Alfonzo in the eighth on Maroul's homer and Ryan Rohlinger's two-run single.

Josh Sharpless (1-1) relieved Snyder and tossed a scoreless fifth for the win.

Monday, the Binghamton Mets start an eight-game road trip with the first of four against the Erie SeaWolves. Tobi Stoner (0-4, 6.11) starts for Binghamton against Luis Marte (0-1, 3.65) of Erie. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Jerry Uht Park with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: all three of Binghamton's runs scored with two out...Aguilar failed to go six innings for the second straight start after doing so for 10 consecutive outings...Saturday's suspended game against Connecticut will be resumed on Monday, 7/28, starting at 6:05. The regularly-scheduled game will follow. That game will last seven innings.
