Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves used late-inning heroics for the second time in the series to take down the Akron Aeros by a final score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park. The 'Wolves have now won three of four coming out of the all-star break.

The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the top of the third inning against Akron starter Scott Lewis. Santo De Leon, in his third game with the 'Wolves, led off, worked the count full and crushed his first home run of the season. The solo shot put the SeaWolves ahead 1-0.

The Aeros would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning against reliever Matt Rusch. With one out in the inning, Stephen Head stepped in and slammed his eighth home run of the season over the wall in center to make it a 1-1 game.

The 'Wolves would regain the lead in the top of the eighth inning. Shawn Roof lead off and for the second time in the game, he grounded to third and reached on a wild throw by West Hodges. With two outs and Roof at third base, Ryan Roberson stepped in and connected on a monster home run. The two run shot was Roberson's team leading 16th of the season to give Erie the 3-1 lead. The home run cleared the 60-foot high batters eye in center field.

Luke French started the game for Erie and tossed six shutout innings allowing five hits in a no-decision. He walked two and struck out three in the game.

Matt Rusch (1-0) picked up the win for the 'Wolves tossing two innings, allowing a run.

Casey Fien came into the game in the ninth inning and picked up his 12th save of the season and his third of the series. He worked a perfect inning with a pair of strikeouts. Fien has now converted in 11-straight save opportunities.

The win for the 'Wolves gives the club their first series win over the Aeros in 2008.
