
Trenton Falls to Akron

(Akron, OH)- Akron Left fielder Nick Weglarz hit the go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning to help Akron come-from-behind to defeat Trenton 5-2 on Tuesday night from Canal Park in Akron, OH. The loss ended Trenton's four-game winning streak.
Trailing 2-0 in the eighth inning, Akron scored five runs in the frame to take the lead. The first five Aeros hitters in the inning were not retired. Right fielder John Drennen and Second Baseman Cristo Arnal led off the inning with back-to-back walks against Trenton Reliever Michael Dunn. Center fielder Jose Constanza followed with a bunt single against Thunder Reliever J.B. Cox (0-1). With the bases loaded, Akron Shortstop Carlos Rivero connected on an RBI single to plate Drennen and cut the Trenton lead to 2-1. Weglarz then put Akron on top with an opposite field grand slam off of Cox.
Trenton (36-33) scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead. With two outs in the inning, First baseman Jorge Vazquez doubled off of Akron Reliever Neil Wagner. He scored on an RBI single by Catcher Jesus Montero. Designated Hitter Chris Malec followed with an RBI single to increase the lead to 2-0.
Trenton Starting Pitcher Ivan Nova pitched six shutout innings and allowed just one hit. He struck out three and walked two. Nova retired the first 11 batters he faced. Akron Starting Pitcher Aaron Laffey tossed four shutout innings for a no-decision. He retired the final 10 batters that he faced. Laffey, who has appeared in 10 games for Cleveland this season, was making a rehabilitation start. Akron Reliever Josh Judy (2-2) pitched a scoreless inning of relief to notch the win for the Aeros. Cleveland Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera also began a rehabilitation stint with Akron. He went 0 x 3, and played the first six innings at shortstop for Akron.
Trenton and Akron play the middle game of their three-game series on Wednesday night from Canal Park in Akron, OH. RHP Ryan Pope (2-5, 4.60) will start for Trenton against Akron RHP Jeanmar Gomez (6-2, 3.00). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
