New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League had two more roster transactions today, and one involved their highly-regarded INF prospect, Danny Valencia, being promoted to Triple-A Rochester in the International League.

A 19th Round selection in 2006 out of the University of Miami, the 24-year-old Valencia has thus far excelled at each level of the Minnesota Twins' farm system. A 2008 Florida State League All-Star, Valencia was called to Double-A, New Britain for the final 69 games of last season and promptly batted .289 while slugging 10 Home Runs with 32 RBI. A solid defender with an above average throwing arm, the 6'2"/208-pounder departs New Britain after having appeared in 57 games for the 2009 Rock Cats. At the time of today's promotion, he had posted a .284 Batting Average with 7 Home Runs and 29 RBI; he was named New Britain's Player of the Month in May.

Baseball America ranks Valencia as the 5th Best Prospect in their entire Minnesota Twins organization.

Returning to New Britain to fill the vacancy created by Valencia's departure will be INF Danny Berg, a 24-year-old native of Melbourne, Australia who had appeared in 15 games for the 2008 Rock Cats. A versatile performer, the 6'0"/194-pound Aussie batted .239 with 1 HR and 18 RBI in 2009 for Ft. Myers in the Single-A, Florida State League. Berg hit .255 in 15 contests for the Rock Cats in 2008.

Both moves are effective immediately, with both players expected to be in uniform for their new teams tonight.
