Rock Cats Add Pitcher to Roster

June 23, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League made a roster move today, receiving RHP Kyle Waldrop from the Ft. Myers Miracle of the Single-A Florida State League. The 23-year-old Waldrop is scheduled to be in uniform tomorrow night when the Double-A Rock Cats host Harrisburg at 6:35 PM at New Britain Stadium.

A 1st Round selection out of Farragut High School (Knoxville, TN) in 2004 by the Rock Cats' parent club - the Minnesota Twins - the 6'5"/215-pound hurler will be donning a New Britain jersey for the second time in his pro career. The Tennessee native was a mid-season call-up to New Britain in 2007, and subsequently appeared in 11 games for the '07 squad - all starts - posting a 3-6 record and 5.34 ERA.

He missed the entire 2008 Season as he recovered from off-season shoulder surgery.

In 2009, the lanky right-hander worked exclusively out of the Ft. Myers bullpen, helping the Miracle capture the First Half Championship of the Florida State League. Waldrop made 20 bullpen appearances for Ft. Myers this year, compiling a 3-2 record - with 3 Saves - and a solid 3.09 ERA. He tossed a total of 35 innings in Florida, surrendering 12 Earned Runs while fanning 20 and walking 7.

Waldrop's career mark is 33 -31, with 360 Strike Outs/114 Walks and a 3.98 ERA.

With reliever Zach Ward recently designated for assignment, it is expected that Waldrop will fill that now vacant middle-relief role in New Britain.
