Trenton Devils Devils Acquire New Jersey Native Mike

Trenton, NJ - The Trenton Devils today acquired defenseman Mike Gershon and future considerations from the Wheeling Nailers in exchange for forward Jeremy Akeson and defenseman Justin Coutu. The announcement was made by Albany and Trenton General Manager Chris Lamoriello.

Gershon, 26, hails from Sparta, NJ and comes to the Devils in his second professional season. He appeared in 49 games for Wheeling this season, posting four goals, 14 assists and a plus-four rating. He played 72 games with the IHL's Port Huron Icehawks in 2009-10 and was plus-19, second best on the team. The 5-10, 195-lb. defenseman played four collegiate seasons at SUNY-Brockport (SUNYAC) where he compiled 17 goals and 26 assists in 101 games from 2005 to 2009. Gershon split one season of junior hockey between Milton and St. Michael's (OPJHL) where he was a teammate of the only other New Jersey-born Trenton Devil, Mike Potacco. Before playing high school hockey at Salisbury School in Salisbury, CT, Gershon played five seasons with the New Jersey Devils Youth Hockey program from 1993 to 1999. He was born in Teaneck, NJ October 6, 1984.

Trenton visits Reading Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. and hosts Toledo Friday at 7 p.m. and Elmira Sunday at 4 p.m.
