
Trenton Blanks New Hampshire 7-0 On Memorial Day

(Manchester, NH)- Trenton tied a season-high with 14 hits, and blanked New Hampshire 7-0 on Monday afternoon from Merchantsauto.com Stadium in Manchester, NH. The Thunder took three out of four in the series with New Hampshire, and won its first series since sweeping Binghamton at Waterfront Park (5/8-5/10). The shutout was Trenton's third of the season and first since 5/13 vs. Portland.
Trenton (20-22) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning off of New Hampshire Starting Pitcher Marc Rzepcynski. With two outs in the single, Shortstop Eduardo Nunez singled. He scored on an RBI double by Center fielder Colin Curtis to make it 1-0. The Thunder increased the lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning. Trenton loaded the bases with no outs in the frame. Rzepcynski retired Catcher Jose Gil on a strikeout, and Third baseman Marcos Vechionacci on a fielder's choice, but allowed a two-out two-run single to Left fielder James Cooper. Trenton extended the lead to 6-0 with three runs in the fifth inning. Curtis led off with a single, and scored on an RBI triple by Second baseman Chris Malec. First Baseman Jorge Vazquez followed with an RBI double for the second run of the inning. Later in the inning, Designated Hitter Noah Hall grounded into a double-play to score Vazquez and make it 6-0. Hall finished the game 3 x 5 with two runs. Trenton's final run came in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Catcher Jose Gil.
Trenton Starting Pitcher Christina Garcia (1-0) tossed five shutout innings for his first win of the season. He yielded two hits, struck out four, and walked only three batters. Garcia has thrown 9 1/3 shutout innings in his first two starts of the season. Rzepcynski (6-4) gave up a season-high 10 hits and six runs over five innings to take the loss. Thunder Reliever Michael Dunn pitched two shutout innings, but was ejected after the first pitch of the top of the eighth inning along with Manager Tony Franklin. Cooper, Curtis, and Right Fielder Edwar Gonzalez each had two hits in the win for the Thunder.
Trenton's road trip shifts to New Britain, CT on Tuesday night, as the Thunder start a three-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats (Double-A afiliate of the Minnesota Twins). RHP Zach McAllister (2-2, 2.25) will start for Trenton against New Britain LHP Ryan Mullins (2-5, 4.38). Game time is set for 6:35 p.m.
