Trenton and Harrisburg Split Double-Header

(Trenton, NJ)- Trenton and Harrisburg split a double-header on Thursday night from Waterfront Park. Harrisburg won the first game 8-4 in nine innings, and Trenton blanked Harrisburg 5-0 in the second game. Trenton picked up its first win since last Thursday afternoon in New Hampshire. The shutout was Trenton's 12th of the season, and ties the Thunder for second in the Eastern League in shutouts.

Trenton (51-53) ended a six-game losing skid by winning the second game of the double-header. Trenton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning. With two outs in the frame, Right fielder Edwar Gonzalez connected on an RBI single to drive home First baseman Chris Malec with the first run of the game. In the third inning, the Thunder tacked on a run to increase the lead to 2-0. With two outs in the frame, Second baseman Reegie Corona tripled and scored as Harrisburg Second baseman Ofilio Castro's relay throw went into the Harrisburg dugout for an error. The Thunder scored two runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Right fielder Edwar Gonzalez had an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0. The fourth run scored on a wild pitch by Harrisburg Starting Pitcher Erik Arnesen (6-4). Trenton Starting Pitcher Paul Bush (1-1) tossed five shutout innings to pick up the win. He only allowed two hits, and struck out six. Arnesen allowed eight hits and five runs (four earned runs) over five innings to take the loss. Thunder Reliever Kanekoa Texeira hurled the final two innings to wrap up the win. Nunez and Corona each had two hits in the game-two victory.

In the first game of the double-header, Harrisburg broke a 4-4 tie in the 9th inning with four runs. Designated Hitter Sean Rooney singled off of Thunder Reliever Wilkins Arias (1-3) to lead off the inning. With one out, Center fielder Edgardo Baez singled. After a ground-ball fielder's choice by Right fielder Mike Daniel put runners at first and third base, First baseman Bill Rhinehart connected on the go-ahead RBI single to give the Senators a 5-4 lead. Later in the frame, Second baseman Ofilio Castro picked up a bases-clearing RBI triple to increase the lead to 8-4. Down 4-1, Trenton scored two runs in the fourth inning to cut the Harrisburg lead to 4-3. Left fielder James Cooper picked up a two-out two-run double in the frame. Trenton tied it in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Shortstop Eduardo Nunez. Harrisburg Reliever Clint Everts (3-1) tossed 2 1/3 shutout innings to pick up the win for the Senators. Arias allowed four hits and four runs in an inning to take the loss. Trenton Starting Pitcher Wilkin De La Rosa scattered seven hits and four runs over four innings for a no-decision. Harrisburg Starting Pitcher Brad Meyers allowed only two hits and one run in 3 2/3 innings for a no-decision.

Trenton begins a three-game series at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona, PA on Friday night. LHP Jeremy Bleich (1-4, 6.48) will start for Trenton against Altoona LHP Phil Dumatrait (0-0, 0.00).
