Arkansas Travelers News Release
North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers walked off for the eighth time in 2015 with a 4-3 win over the Tulsa Drillers on Sunday night at Dickey-Stephens Park.
With the game tied 3-3, pinch hitter Ruben Sosa started the ninth with a single to center. 3B Brian Hernandez followed suit with a single to left that allowed Sosa to take third. After a strikeout and a wild pitch that allowed Hernandez to take second, C Anthony Bemboom dropped down a bunt back towards LHP Ryan Dennick (L, 2-1). Dennick's throw home was well late and Sosa scored the game-winning run.
LHP Sean Newcomb, the Angels top-ranked prospect according to MLB.com, tossed five innings in his Double-A debut for Arkansas. Newcomb allowed two runs on three hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
Newcomb was lifted after five innings and 101 pitches with the Travs up 3-2. Tulsa, however, plated a run in the seventh that tied the game 3-3 and took the potential victory away from Newcomb.
LHP Greg Mahle (W, 2-1) earned the victory after a perfect ninth with two strikeouts.
LHP Chris O'Grady retired all four batters he faced prior to Mahle.
DH Raywilly Gomez lined a two-run double in the fourth to put Arkansas up 2-1 and finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and the two RBIs.
RF Cal Towey (15), CF Chad Hinshaw (12) and Hernandez (10) each extended their consecutive games on base streak with singles.
Arkansas finished 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
Five of the Travs' eight walk-off wins have come against Tulsa.
With the victory, Arkansas improved to 57-49 on the season and 21-16 in the second half. The Travs have won nine of their last 11 games overall.
Arkansas will begin a seven-game roadtrip on Monday with stops at Northwest Arkansas (3) and Springfield (4). First pitch from Arvest Ballpark on Monday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
