Arkansas Travelers News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - The Arkansas Travelers made it four straight wins after the San Antonio Missions' ninth inning rally fell a run short in Saturday night's 5-4 Travelers victory.
RHP Albert Suarez (W, 9-9) earned his team-leading ninth victory of the season after allowing a pair of runs (both earned) on five hits in six walk-free innings innings, finishing with four strikeouts in his winning effort.
RHP Kyle Winkler (H, 6) faced the minimum in two quality innings of relief, allowing a lone hit with one strikeout across scoreless seventh and eighth innings.
Things got interesting for RHP Danny Reynolds (SV, 9) who surrendered two runs (both earned) on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in the ninth inning, but was able to get a strikeout looking of C Adolfo Reina to earn his ninth save of the year and finish off the ballgame.
RHP Bryan Rodriguez (L, 6-12) was dealt the loss after giving up five runs (all earned) on 12 hits with two strikeouts and a season-high four walks in 4.2 innings of work.
Arkansas opened up the scoring thanks to a two-out, two-run single off the bat of DH Blake Gailen to put Arkansas up by a 2-0 score after the first inning and a half of play.
The Travelers tacked on three more in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead but would not score the rest of the night. In the third, Arkansas got a run on a 3B Duanel Jones throwing error, another on a 2B Sherman Johnson sacrifice fly as well as the third and final run on a RF Cal Towey RBI single into right-center.
San Antonio was held off the board through the first five innings before hopping on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, receiving a SS Benji Gonzalez RBI single as well as a Duanel Jones sacrifice fly.
Down to their final strike with two aboard in the ninth, 2B Taylor Lindsey ripped a double that one-hopped the wall in right to score Duanel Jones and DH Kyle Gaedele to make it a one-run game at 5-4. Reynolds then struck out the next batter Adolfo Reina to end the ballgame and secure Arkansas of their Texas League-leading 24th one-run victory.
Four different Travs finished with multi-hit efforts on Sunday with CF Chad Hinshaw leading the way with three hits, while LF Ruben Sosa, Blake Gailen and Cal Towey all finished with two knocks apiece.
With the win, Arkansas has won four straight games and now sits one game in front of the Springfield Cardinals for first place in the second half North Division standings.
In Sunday night's 6:05 p.m. series finale from San Antonio, the Travelers will send out RHP Chris Ellis (5-3, 3.86) to the mound as he's set to be countered by a fellow righty in RHP Ronald Herrera (3-0, 3.77) for the Missions.
