Frisco RoughRiders News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI - The Frisco RoughRiders used three home runs and a strong pitching performance from Chad Bell to take the middle game, 4-2, against the Springfield Cardinals on Saturday at Hammons Field. Lewis Brinson, Trever Adams and Drew Robinson all hit homers in the victory.

For the third consecutive night, Frisco scored a run before their opponent had a chance to bat. With two outs in the first inning, Brinson cranked his fourth Double-A home run to give the Riders a 1-0 lead. The slugger is now 30-for-61 against left-handed pitching this season.

The early lead would not last long as the Cardinals immediately answered. Michael Ohlman contributed a two-out RBI single to right and tie the game at one. Bell recovered, and got Patrick Wisdom to popup and the Cards stranded the bases loaded.

With one on and one out in the second, Adams snapped the tie game with his fifth home run of the year to give the Riders a 3-1 lead. Springfield used back-to-back doubles in the fifth inning to tally a run and make it a 3-2 game. Bell escaped more trouble with a double-play to end the frame and stranded the tying run in scoring position.

After a scoreless sixth, Robinson added an insurance run with a solo home run to make it 4-2. The home run is Robinson's 19th this season, and the left-hander has hit one out in back-to-back games.

Frisco starter Chad Bell (6-12) worked into the seventh inning to pick up his sixth win. The southpaw allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out five over 6 2/3 innings. Bell left the game with a runner on and two outs and Adam Parks got Aledmys Diaz to ground out and end the seventh inning.

Springfield starter Jimmy Reed (2-3) allowed three runs five hits, two of which were home runs, over six innings and took the loss.

David Martinez tossed a perfect ninth inning to pickup his 20th save. The RoughRiders (26-28, 55-69) and Cardinals will the play the rubber match at 6:10 p.m. on Sunday. LHP Victor Payano will oppose RHP Andrew Morales. The Riders return to the Metroplex on Tuesday, August 25 to play a four-game set against San Antonio (San Diego Padres).
