
Travs Score Early In 9-5 Win Over Frisco

Ray Winder Field, Little Rock, AR â The Arkansas Travelers (24-20) won their third consecutive game by scoring nine runs in the first three innings and then held on for a 9-5 victory over the Frisco RoughRiders (17-27). Arkansas RF Greg Porter led a 12-hit attack with a home run (3), a single, 2 runs scored and 4 RBI. Arkansas RHP Delvin James (3-2) pitched six innings scattering nine hits, three runs (all earned), two walks and four strikeouts for the victory. The Travs scored all nine of their runs off losing pitcher LHP C.J. Wilson (0-2) in the first three innings. Frisco managed to out hit the Travs 15-12, but Arkansas batters went 7-for-9 with a runner in scoring position while Frisco managed just 1-for-13 with a runner in scoring position. The Travs picked up a game on the Drillers who lost at San Antonio. Arkansas is just two games in back of Tulsa for first place.
The Travs took advantage of an error by Frisco SS Joaquin Arias in the first inning to score five unearned runs. With one out Travs 2B Alberto Callaspo hit a routine grounder to Arias. After he bobbled the ball, Arias threw late to first base allowing Callaspo to reach. Wilson then walked Tommy Murphy, and David Gates singled to load the bases. Travs C Mike Napoli followed with a hard grounder to the shortstop hole for an infield single that scored Callaspo. Murphy scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Eylward for a 2-0 lead. Porter followed with a three-run blast over the right-field screen onto the freeway for a 5-0 lead.
Frisco managed to score a run in the second inning after Seth Taylor beat a grounder to short for a single and scored when Arias doubled to center. Arias was thrown out at third base by Murphy and SS Erick Aybar.
The Travs earned all their four runs in the third inning. Napoli reached with a one-out single to left and then stole second and went to third base on a wild pitch. Eylward worked a walk and Porter singled to right field bringing Napoli home for a 6-1 lead. 3B Ryan Leahy then ripped a two-run triple to right center for an 8-1 lead. Aybar capped the Travs scoring with a single to center for a 9-1 lead.
Frisco RHP Shane Bazzell held the Travs to just three hits in four shutout relief innings before RHP Scott Feldman pitched a scoreless ninth.
James never had an easy inning, but never let Frisco rally back. The Riders scored a run in the fourth inning on a single, walk and two groundouts. In the sixth inning, DH Jared Abruzzo laced a solo home run (3).
Arkansas reliever LHP Jonathon Rouwenhorst allowed a run on two hits in the seventh. In his Class AA debut RHP Jose Arredondo allowed a run on two this and a walk in the eighth inning.
Two Travs extended hitting streaks as Callaspo went 2-for-5 and has a hit in 11 straight games. Murphy went 1-for-3 and has hit in 12 straight games.
Time of game was 2:39 and the paid attendance was 2,467.
The second game of this three-game set comes Tuesday night. The Travelers have LHP Tim Bittner (1-3, 5.67 ERA) pitching against Frisco LHP Wil Rodriguez (4-2, 2.16 ERA). First pitch will be thrown at 7:10 p.m. and the gates open at 6:10 p.m.
