San Antonio Missions News Release


Last Night's Game: The Missions stole one from the Corpus Christi Hooks yesterday scoring two runs with two outs in the top of the 9th inning to win 2-1. Jaime Bubela tripled with runners on first and third. The Missions are a perfect 9-0 against the Hooks this season.

Today's Game : The Tulsa Drillers (Colorado Rockies affilitate) come to town for the first time all-year to take on the Missions in a three game series. The Drillers are currently leading the Eastern Division by three games over the Arkansas Travlers. The Missions after sweeping the Hooks are now trailing the Midland RockHounds by only four games in the Western Division with 26 games remaining in the first half of the season.

Starting Pitchers : The Missions send the southpaw Thomas Oldham to the hill to take on the Drillers. Oldahm is making his 9th start of the season and in his last three outings has a record of 1-0 with an ERA of 3.71. He is 2-1 in Wolff Stadium with an ERA of only 2.49. In his last start in Corpus Christi on Wednesday Night, Oldham tossed six innings allowing two runs, both solo homeruns, on seven hits, but did not earn a decision. So far this season Thomas has a WHIP of 1.28...Facing off against Oldham for the Drillers and making his 9th start of the season, will be right hander Jon Asahina. Asahina is 4th in the league in ERA this season and is tied for the league lead in victories with 5. In his last three starts Jon is 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA. His last two outings have both benn complete games. In his last start he tossed nine innings giving up three runs on seven hits to beat the Wichita Wranglers on May 18. Asahina has a WHIP of 1.14 so far this season.

Glad to be Home: The Missions are glad to return to Wolff Stadium today where they have the best home record in the league at 15-6. The team batting average raises to .279 at home from .242 on the road and the ERA falls to 3.50 from 4.23. Missions 1B Nate Espy is hitting a team high .354 at home and only .194 on the road.

Lucky Seven: Missions outfielder Gary Harris is in the middle of a seven-game hit streak and is looking to add to it tonight versus the Drillers. In the seven games, Harris is 10-30 with a .333 batting average with 1 2B, 2 HR's and 6 RBI.

Goodbye Mr. Harris...Welcome Back Mr. Rall: Missions reliever Jeff Harris was called up to Tacoma (Triple-A) after being 5-0 with a 2.10 ERA in San Antonio so far this season. To replace Harris the Rainiers will send the Missions LHP Tim Rall back. Rall is 1-1 with a 4.97 ERA in San Antonio already this season.
