North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers scored a Texas League best 14 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in a 15-12 win over the Springfield Cardinals on Friday night at Dickey-Stephens Park.

The Travs shattered the league record by drawing 10 walks in the frame. The previous high was seven recorded four times. The 14-run inning tied a Texas League record for most runs ever scored in a fifth inning. Only twice ever has a Texas League team scored more than 14 runs in one inning.

Arkansas' previous season-high for walks in a game was nine. They drew 13 on Friday.

In the 58 minute bottom of the fifth, 20 Travs came to the plate and all nine Arkansas players scored at least one run. Four different Cardinals pitchers (including two position players) combined to throw 105 pitches. There were 410 total pitches thrown in the game.

Arkansas led 14-2 through five, but Springfield scored 10 of the next 11 runs to cut the 12-run deficit to 15-12. The Cardinals brought the tying run to the on-deck circle with two outs in the ninth inning, but LHP Greg Mahle (S, 1) was called upon to face 2B Breyvic Valera who grounded out to end the game.

The Cards plated one in the sixth, five in the eighth and four in the ninth.

RHP Michael Brady (W, 1-2) earned his first victory of the season with five strong innings in the start for Arkansas. Brady allowed two runs on six hits with no walks and two strikeouts. The 28-year-old has only walked three batters this season with 35 strikeouts.

Travs 2B Sherman Johnson reached base three more times on Friday, finishing the series having reached base at least three times in all four games (13-for-21).

1B Brian Hernandez finished 3-for-6 with two runs and a season-high five RBIs. Hernandez (43) leads the Texas League in RBIs with seven more than Northwest Arkansas Naturals infielder Balbino Fuenmayor (36).

C Raywilly Gomez went 2-for-5 with a walk and upped his on-base percentage to .456 with Arkansas.

The Travs went 7-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

With the win, Arkansas salvaged the final game of the series and improved to 31-28 on the season. The Travs, trailing the Naturals by 3.5 games in the Texas League North Division, will begin a four-game series at Northwest Arkansas on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
