Frisco RoughRiders News Release
MIDLAND, TEXAS - Left-hander Chad Bell tossed seven shutout innings and Nomar Mazara knocked a home run for the third straight game to help the Frisco RoughRiders take the series opener, 4-0, against the Midland RockHounds on Saturday night at Security Bank Ballpark. Mazara collected his 11-and-12th RBI in the last five games as the Riders won their fourth game overall.
Mazara continued his hot hitting with another multi-hit game, his third straight and 17th overall. He put the Riders on the board in the fourth inning with an RBI single to score Luis Mendez before belting his seventh homer of the season in the eighth to put Frisco ahead 4-0. Mazara now leads the team with 34 RBI.
Bell (2-7) won his first game since April 29 despite three straight quality starts. The southpaw worked seven shutout innings and allowed just two hits while striking out eight RockHounds. The eight whiffs mark the second most in a start for Bell this season as he struck out 11 in a start against Midland on May 21.
The Riders (27-34) scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning off Kris Hall, who relieved starter Jonathan Joseph (3-2) after five innings. Drew Robinson led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on Mendez's third sacrifice of the season. Nick Williams drove home Robinson with a single and later scored on a double from Preston Beck to make it 3-0 Riders.
Cody Ege worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings before Lendy Castillo made his Double-A debut to retire the final two outs. The Riders won their first game in five tries at Security Bank Ballpark and set a season-high with their fourth straight win.
The two teams play game two of the four game set on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. The Riders send Jose Leclerc (2-3) to the mound and the RockHounds counter with Nate Long (3-4). The RoughRiders return to Dr Pepper Ballpark on June 21 for a four game set against Midland.
