Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Colin Rea and Stephen Kohlscheen combined to retire the first 18 Hooks hitters Saturday night as San Antonio opened the series against Corpus Christi with a 4-1 victory before 5,897 at Wolff Stadium.
The result snaps the Hooks' (41-19) win streak at six games.
Rea, making his first appearance since May 18, struck out five over four perfect frames. He threw 32 of 46 pitches for strikes.
Kohlscheen (1-0) entered in the fifth and retired the next six batters.
The Missions (26-34) broke through against Brian Holmes in the third. With two away and a runner at first, Travis Jankowski was hit by a pitch, bringing Alberth Martinez to the plate. Martinez sent a 1-1 pitch into center field for a base hit, scoring Griff Erickson from second base. Jankowski went first to third on the play and crossed the plate on an infield single by Trea Turner.
Holmes (1-2) scattered three hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings.
Chan-Jong Moon's lead-off single in the seventh accounted for Corpus Christi's first base runner. Later in the inning, Tyler White cracked a two-out knock to left field, putting the Hooks on the board at 2-1.
Ruben Alaniz made his season debut Friday night. Following a 1-2-3 Missions sixth, San Antonio sent eight men to the plate in the seventh. Duanel Jones' RBI double keyed the rally, which was capped by a two-out infield single off the bat of Martinez. Alaniz issued two walks and hit a batter in the inning.
Former Hook Michael Dimock faced three in the eighth and Tayron Guerrero sidestepped two walks in the ninth to notch his fourth save.
Corpus Christi sends Kyle Westwood (4-2, 4.06) to the hill Sunday afternoon. Elliot Morris (2-4, 4.45) gets the ball for San Antonio. First pitch 2:05. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
