Travs Finish Sweep, Return with Five Straight Wins

MIDLAND, Tex - The Arkansas Travelers got out to an early lead and held on late for a 4-3 victory over the Midland RockHounds on Monday at Security Bank Ballpark. Nate Smith (4-1) dealt six shutout innings to help the Travs finish a three-game sweep of the Hounds and extend their winning streak to a season-best five games.

Making his first start in ten days, Smith allowed no Hounds runner to third base even though he walked five and allowed five base hits. Smith's battery mate Anderson De La Rosa made three huge throws with two runners caught stealing and another picked off at second base.

Kaleb Cowart delivered a two-run single in the third inning after Maikol Gonzalez provided the go-ahead run for the second night straight with an RBI double. Cowart and shortstop Eric Stamets each collected two base hits in helping the Travs to their first three-game sweep.

Kyle Hudson had followed Stamets being hit by a pitch in the third with a sacrifice bunt to set Gonzalez up for the tie-breaking double. Hudson led off the fifth inning with a ground ball that Addison Russell threw away for a two-base error. Gonzalez moved Hudson to third with a groundout. Then Drew Granier (4-3) bounced a pitch close to the plate and Hudson broke for home scoring on a wild pitch that only got away by a couple of feet for a 4-0 lead..

De La Rosa caught Dusty Coleman stealing third base in the second inning after a walk and a sacrifice put him at second base. Hiro Nakajima was nailed at second base attempting to steal to finish the fourth inning. De La Rosa got Smith out of the sixth with a pickoff of Jefry Marte at second base for the third out.

Midland rallied against Carmine Giardina in the seventh getting a two-run triple from Conner Crumbliss and an RBI groundout by Billy Burns. Addison Russell's two-out single put the tying run on base, but Giardina got Max Muncy to hit a groundball into the shift for a fielder's choice.

Jairo Diaz worked the eighth inning after going two innings for his first Texas League save on Sunday. He also put the tying run on base with a one-out walk to Nakajima. Coleman laid down a bunt to move pinch runner D'Arby Myers to second base. Chad Oberacker's line drive was caught in left field by Drew Heid for the third out.

Cam Bedrosian had an uneventful ninth inning for the save with three outs. Bedrosian struck out Blake Forsythe then battled Crumbliss to nine pitches before getting a bouncer to Brian Hernandez at first base. Bedrosian grabbed Burns's comebacker to secure the victory giving the Travs five wins in six tries on this road trip.

Time of game was 2:48 and the paid attendance was 3,344.

The Travs now head home for an off day before the start of a six-game home stand on Wednesday. The Frisco RoughRiders visit for three games starting Wednesday night with Orangel Arenas (5-4, 3.19) pitching against the Riders Alex Gonzalez (1-3, 4.50). at 7:10 p.m.
