
Travs Dominate Wichita in 10-0 Rout

Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, Wichita, KS - Four Travelers collected three hits and the Travs (3-0) banged out 20 hits in a 10-0 victory over the Wichita Wranglers (0-3). Alberto Callaspo, Tommy Murphy, Nick Gorneault and Jason Aspito had three singles apiece, while Rudy Gomez, Casey Kotchman and Jeff Mathis got two hits each. Arkansas LHP Tim Bittner (1-0) and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout. Bittner tossed six innings and allowed just four hits and a walk on two strikeouts. Over the first three games of this series, the Travs have outscored the Wranglers 25-2 and outhit Wichita 41-15.
Callaspo started the game with a single to center against starting and losing pitcher RHP Kyle Middleton (0-1). Callaspo took third base when Murphy singled to right field and scored when Kotchman grounded into a double play for a 1-0 lead.
Middleton kept the Travs at bay until the fifth inning when Gorneault reached on a leadoff single. After moving to second base on a fielder's choice, Gorneault scored on Murphy's two-out single to center for a 2-0 lead.
Wichita RHP Ryan Baerlocher relieved to start the sixth, but allowed the first five Arkansas batters to reach base. Mathis and Gomez singled to start the inning and Gorneault followed with a single to left. Mathis was thrown out by LF Dee Brown trying to score on the hit, but singles by Aspito and SS Javy Rodriguez scored two runs for a 4-0 lead.
After a scoreless seventh inning, Wichita brought in RHP Jorge Vasquez to pitch the eighth. Gomez cracked a one-out double and scored on a two-out single by Aspito. Aspito led the Travs with three RBI and has knocked in five runs in two games.
The Travs rallied for five more runs in the ninth inning with the first six batters reaching base safely.
The game was played in 2:33 with the paid attendance at 528.
The Travs and Wranglers will play the fourth game of this six-game series Sunday afternoon. RHP Mike Brunet takes the mound for Arkansas against RHP Junior Herndon. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
