Express rock Diablos for first win
April 10, 2004 - Texas League (TL1)
Round Rock Express News Release
Through the first two games, the Round Rock Express had to scratch and claw for the six total runs they had scored. Saturday night in El Paso, though, everything came easy.
Todd Self and David Matranga homered to lead a 15-hit attack in a 13-2 win over the El Paso Diablos for the Express' first win of the season.
Round Rock (1-2) got started from the get go, putting up three runs in the first inning. 2,329 at Cohen Stadium would see a Self single and a Tommy Whiteman double plate all of the runs they would need in the first inning. Self hit Round Rock's first home run in the third and Matranga capped off a four RBI night with a three run shot in the ninth to close out the scoring.
Ezequiel Astacio gave the Express a solid first start, showing why the Houston Astros were willing to give up Billy Wagner for a package of pitchers, including the 24-year old. Astacio (1-0) went six innings, allowing the two runs while striking out eight.
El Paso falls to 2-1. Adriano Rosario (0-1) took the loss.
Game four of the six-game series is Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. CT.
