Arkansas Travelers News Release

Dr. Pepper Ballpark, Frisco, Texas - The Travs' losing streak reached five games Sunday night as Frisco triumphed 8-7 in the opener of a three-game set. Arkansas hitters did show signs of busting out of a slump as the Travs cracked three home runs and smacked 11 base hits. Ben Johnson hit his career high 20th dinger while Corey Smith (14) and Adam Greenberg also went deep.

Frisco rallied early in the first against Brok Butcher (5-5) for five runs before there were two outs. Jose Vallejo's two-run single brought in Julio Borbon and Elvis Andrus for a 2-0 lead. Ben Harrisson's RBI double was followed by a two-run blast by Steve Murphy (12) giving Frisco a 5-0 edge.

Borbon reached third with a one-out triple in the second and scored on a hard single to center by Andrus maxing out Frisco's lead at 6-0.

The first eight Travs batters were retired by Michael Schlact (6-5), but Greenberg smacked a two-out solo homer in the third and the Travs rallied in the fourth for three runs.

Brian Stavisky blooped a single to begin the fourth then Ben Johnson poked a flare to right field. Stavisky paused halfway to second base but just barely beat Craig Gentry's throw to second. Smith then lined a two-run double to left field to cut the deficit to 6-3. Smith took third base when Adam Morrissey found a gap with a looper between first and second. Smith scored when Brian Walker's slow grounder to short forced Morrissey at second. Walker got caught off first base when Cody Fuller lined to second to end the inning with Frisco leading 6-4.

Greenberg got to second base to begin the fifth inning when Schlact threw his bunt single in foul grounds. Greenberg moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Nate Sutton then scored when Wil Ortiz sacrificed to left field bringing the Travs within a 6-5 score.

Ben Harrisson increased Frisco's lead to 8-5 with a two-run homer off Butcher in the fifth, but Johnson got the Travs one run back with his 20th homer.

The Travs got good work out of the bullpen with two shutout innings from Barret Browning and one frame from RHP Ryan Aldridge. Then Corey Smith brought the Travs within one run with a leadoff home run off Andrew Laughter in the ninth. Cody Fuller got the tying run on base with a two-out single, but Laughter struck out Greenberg to end the game for his sixth save.
