Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
Springdale, AR- The Naturals used a seven run third inning and a great pitching performance by starter Blake Wood to win their third game in row, and fifth consecutive game against the Hooks, taking game Monday night's game by the tally of 9-2 in front of a crowd 3,834 at Arvest Ballpark.
Northwest Arkansas (8-9, 41-46) found themselves down a run early, but got things rolling in the third. Ed Lucas and Adam Donachie hit back-to-back singles to lead things off. Hooks' starter Brad James began to show a streak of wildness when he walked Jose Duarte to load the bases. He then hit Naturals second baseman Marc Maddox, scoring Lucas and then followed by walking Mario Lisson to give the Naturals the 2-1 lead. James then left the game with an injury and was replaced with reliever Jose Oyervidez. Kila Kaaihue came up to the plate and hit an RBI sacrifice fly. Juan Richardson and Cory Aldridge followed by knocking in back-to-back RBI singles. Irving Falu then flied out for the second out of the inning. For the second time in the inning both Lucas and Donachie singled, this time resulting in RBI capping off the Naturals seven run inning. This mark the second highest for total number of runs in one inning for the Naturals-- the previous mark was eight runs on April 11th at home against the San Antonio Missions in the eighth inning. Aldridge added two more runs in the fifth when he hit his first home run as a Natural, a shot to right field.
Corpus Christi (5-11, 35-51) scored the first run of the game for the second night in a row in the third inning on Drew Suttons' RBI single. They added one more run in the ninth when Val Majewski hit his third home run of the season.
On the hill for the Naturals' was the impressive Blake Wood (2-3) who picked the victory and had his best outing since his complete game shutout in his second start with the Naturals in early June. He tossed seven innings yielding one run on six hits, while fanning five batters and not allowing a walk.
Hooks' starter Brad James (6-6) suffered the loss, lasting two-plus innings, giving up five runs on three hits, striking out two and walking three batters.
