Arkansas Travelers News Release
Dickey-Stephens Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas - The Arkansas Travelers and Northwest Arkansas Naturals announce what is believed to be the first trade involving front-office employees in Texas League history. Travs stadium operations intern Jared Schein is being traded along two cases of award-winning Little Rock-brewed Diamond Bear Pale Ale to the Naturals in exchange for intern Jacob Coleman and two cases of Tyson chicken wings.
Schein, a 2008 graduate of the University of California-Riverside, joined the Travs in March just prior to the organization's second season at Dickey-Stephens Park.
"I'm not sure why I've been dealt," said Schein. "I've been working on my gum-scraping recently and thought I'd made great strides. I guess it's good to know that there's another organization willing to take a shot on me."
"I just felt we had to make a move," Travs General Manager Pete Laven said. "The intern crew had become complacent since their legendary clean-up following the Travs' division title. It was time to shake things up a bit."
Coleman, a Little Rock native and Episcopal High School graduate will join the Travelers on Wednesday and go through a rigorous two-day training process before getting his Travs staff shirt for Friday's series opener with the Tulsa Drillers.
"Trust me, I did not want to see Jared go," Laven added. "Sometimes you have to give up quality to get quality. I'm proud of the progress he made on his gum-scraping but we're doing fine in that department anyway. Besides everybody tells me about the upside of this Coleman kid."
Coleman will be available for interviews Wednesday from 3:00 until 4:00 then his training must take precedence.
"I'd be lying if I said this trade wasn't made with the post season in mind," Laven said.
