Springfield Cardinals News Release

The Tulsa Drillers battered the Springfield Cardinals on Tuesday night, winning by a score of 14-2 at Drillers Stadium. The loss for the Cards (12-12) drops them to two full games behind Tulsa (14-10) and Northwest Arkansas (14-10) in the North Division.

Catcher Brian Esposito, who was the losing pitcher in game two of Monday's double-header, had a big night offensively with three hits and four RBIs for Tulsa.

A lack of available arms in the Springfield bullpen forced Cards' starter Kyle Sadlowski to remain in the game, despite his ineffectiveness on Tuesday night. Sadlowski (2-1), who's been very solid for Springfield since being called up from Palm Beach, allowed ten runs on 11 hits over just 4 2/3 innings in suffering his first loss of the year.

Tulsa got one in the second on a Justin Nelson RBI single, taking a 1-0 advantage.

The Drillers got four in the third to jump out to a 5-0 lead, as Brian Esposito's two-run single with two outs capped the inning.

Springfield took advantage of an error in the fourth, getting their first run. Cody Haerther reached on a ball of the glove of first baseman Jeff Kindel. Mark Shorey followed with an RBI double, plating Haerther to make it 5-1.

The Tulsa bats got busy again though, scoring three in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a commanding 10-1 lead.

The Cards got their final run in the sixth, as Jon Jay singled and later scored on a Shorey RBI single, making it 10-2.

Esposito homered with a man aboard in the sixth to make it 12-2, then got two unearned runs in the eighth to cap the scoring at 14-2.

Tulsa starter Ching-Lung Lo (7-7) earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits over five-plus innings.

The Redbirds look to get back on track on Wednesday, sending Adam Daniels (1-3) to the hill against former St. Louis Cardinals' right-hander Kip Wells. Wells, now of the Colorado Rockies, will pitch for Tulsa as part of a rehab assignment due to a blood clot in his right hand. First pitch on Wednesday night from Drillers Stadium will be 7:05pm.

Your Springfield Cardinals are on the road to face the first-place Tulsa Drillers for a five-game series. The Redbirds return to Hammons Field this coming Friday, opening up a seven-game home stand against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals and the Arkansas Travelers.

On Friday night, it's another AM Pyrotechnics Friday Night Fireworks Extravaganza. Game time on Friday will be 7:10pm!
