Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Manchester Monarchs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Rich Seeley, announced today that Sam Brittain has been assigned to the Monarchs by the Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL) and Ed Zdolshek has been released as the emergency backup goaltender.

The Monarchs are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings and the American Hockey League's Ontario Reign.

Brittain, 24, returns to the Monarchs after being recalled to the Thunderbirds on Jan. 19. With Springfield, Brittain made one start and stopped 24 shots in a 1-0 victory against the Utica Comets. With the Monarchs this season, Brittain has appeared in 24 games and has posted a 17-5-0 record, a 2.77 GAA and a 0.907 save percentage.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound native of Calgary, Alberta, was a fourth round draft pick (#92 overall) of the Florida Panthers in the 2010 NHL Entry draft by the Florida Panthers.

Zdolshek, 25, signed as an emergency backup goaltender with the Monarchs on Jan. 21.

Brittain and the Monarchs are back in action Friday, Jan. 27 (7:30 p.m.) when they continue a three-game series with the Norfolk Admirals at Scope Arena.

The Monarchs will host the annual Pink in the Rink game Saturday, Feb. 11 (7 p.m.), when they host their North Division rivals, the Adirondack Thunder, at SNHU Arena. The ice will be dyed pink, breast cancer survivors will be recognized before the game and the Monarchs will wear special pink jerseys, all in an effort to raise funds and awareness for the Catholic Medical Center's Breast Care Center.
