Tourists Show Fight as Win Streak Comes to an End
August 3, 2019 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists had their five-game home win streak snapped on Saturday night by the Lakewood BlueClaws. Asheville fell behind big but rallied to keep the game interesting. In the end, the Tourists fell by a final score of 10-6.
Lakewood scored the game's first nine runs. The BlueClaws used a pair of Home Runs from Malvin Matos, the South Atlantic League's reigning Player of the Week, that included a two-run shot and a three-run shot.
By the time the Tourists found their footing offensively the bases were empty with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Asheville worked back-to-back walks followed by a Max George single to load the bases. Will Golsan then doubled in a pair of runs to put the Tourists on the board.
George and Golsan came through again in the seventh inning. George's RBI double made it 9-3 and Golsan's two-run single brought Asheville to within four at 9-5. The two teams exchanged runs in the eighth and Asheville was held without a base-runner in the ninth.
Jacob Bosiokovic and Will Tribucher both pitched well down the stretch for Asheville. Bosiokovic allowed one run over a season-high three innings of work while Tribucher worked a scoreless ninth. Danny Edgeworth chipped in a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with a walk and two runs scored. Golsan paced the Tourists' offense with his second consecutive three-hit game.
Asheville will attempt to bounce back against Lakewood with a short turnaround. Sunday afternoon's contest at McCormick Field begins at 2:05pm. The Tourists and the BlueClaws have three games remaining in their current series.
