Fireflies Have Game Interrupted by Rain...Again

HAGERSTOWN, MD - For the second time in two days, Columbia had a game suspended due to rain. The Fireflies and Suns played into the seventh inning on Saturday before the rain passed through. With the score tied, 2-2, the umpires called for the tarp and shortly afterword suspended the game.

The game will be completed on --Sunday at 2:05 ET with the Suns due to hit in the bottom of the seventh. Sunday's originally scheduled game will be played when the first tilt is completed. That will be a full nine-inning game.

Thursday's game in Kannapolis was suspended in the third inning due to rain as well. The Fireflies and Intimidators also wound up playing a game and a half the following day.

Columbia scored first in the second inning on Saturday. Chase Chambers and Shervyen Newton worked walks against Suns starter Jackson Rutledge. Moments later, Hayden Senger singled into centerfield. Hagerstown's Armond Upshaw fumbled the ball in center and the error allowed Chambers to swing around third and score. Newton wound up at third after the botched play.

Gerson Molina was up next with runners at the corners and skipped a pitch towards short. Jackson Cluff retired Senger at second but could not double up Molina at first. That allowed Newton to sneak home and score.

Hagerstown scored a run in the fourth and tied things up in the fifth. The Fireflies stranded runners at the corners in the top of the seventh just before the rain came down.
