WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash dropped a 14-8 slugfest to the Asheville Tourists

Asheville got off to a dream start, when Quincy Hamilton crushed the first pitch of the first inning for a leadoff, solo home run.

Then in the bottom of the second, Zach Daniels and Luis Guerrero singled back-to-back. After CJ Stubbs walked to load the bases, Kenedy Corona knocked in Daniels and Guerrero with a single to left field. Stubbs also advanced to third on the play. That put him in prime position to score later in the inning, on a fielder's choice off the bat of Michael Sandle, which put Asheville up 3-0.

The Tourists kept the pressure on in the third, with a big two-out rally. Luis Guerrero smoked a first pitch double to center field, then Chad Stevens drove him in with a double as well. CJ Stubbs then turned the first pitch of his at-bat around for a two-run home run, and Asheville had themselves a 7-0 edge through three.

The Dash began to claw back in the top of the fourth inning. Bryan Ramos slapped a single up the middle, then Luis Mieses launched his ninth home run of the year. That trimmed the deficit to 7-2.

But in the home half, Asheville responded again. JC Correa and Luis Santana both reached base with two outs, before Zach Daniels launched a three-run home run to left field, putting the Tourists ahead 10-2.

After a scoreless fifth inning, the only scoreless frame of the game, Asheville added on to their lead in the sixth. Quincy Hamilton hit his second home run of the game, another leadoff blast to make it 11-2 Tourists. The inning continued with a single from Michael Sandle, a double by Correa, then an RBI single by Luis Santana to plate Sandle.

Down 10 runs now, the Dash started a comeback effort in the seventh inning. Jason Matthews stroked a leadoff single, then Brandon Bossard doubled to put two in scoring position. Caberea Weaver then hit a bloop single into right field to score Matthews, and then a Duke Ellis single brought Bossard home to make it a 12-4 game. A Keegan Fish solo home run in the eighth got the Dash a run closer, now trailing just 12-5.

However, the Tourists responded once again in the bottom of the eighth. JC Correa doubled home Quincy Hamilton to make it a 13-5 lead, then a single by Zach Daniels later in the frame pushed Correa across.

With their backs against the wall, trailing 14-5, the Dash strung together some base hits in the top of the ninth. Ben Norman reached base with a one-out double, then a Bryan Ramos single put runners on the corners. Luis Mieses pushed Norman home with his single, while Bryan Ramos held up at third base. Mieses then took second base on defensive indifference, and Adam Hackenberg worked a walk, which loaded the bases. Keegan Fish drove in Ramos with a sacrifice fly to left field, and then Jason Matthews singled into shallow center to score Mieses. That made it a 14-8 Tourists lead, which held up as the final score. Rhett Kouba got the win for Asheville, and Garrett Schoenle took the loss.
