Tourists Fall in Final Regular Season Game

(Greenville, SC) With the playoff looming on Wednesday, Asheville and Greenville finished the regular season with a 5-1 Drive win on Monday afternoon from Fluor Field. Asheville (68-70, 43-27) missed out on a chance to finish the regular season with a .500 winning percentage by dropping the final three games to the Drive. The Tourists finish the season with the top three hitters in the league, the best Team batting average and the league leader in ERA. The playoffs open up on Wednesday from McCormick Field.

Carlos Luna was sharp through the first four innings before running into trouble. Luna allowed three runs in 4 1/3 innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Greenville plated all three runs off Luna in the fourth inning. Ty Weeden walked then scored on a Thomas Di Benedetto double. Zach Gentile followed with an RBI triple and scored on an error from Patrick Rose at third base.

Caleb Clay (6-7) earned the win with five innings of work. Clay allowed just one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Charlie Rosario and Felix Ventura tossed the final four innings of relief, allowing just two hits.

Drive catcher Mike Thomas began the sixth inning with his second homerun of the series to take a 4-1 lead. Thomas homered off Isaiah Froneberger in relief of Carlos Luna. Froneberger tossed 1 2/3 allowed on run on three hits with three strikeouts.

Patrick Rose scored the Tourists only run in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. Rose Walked and moved to third base on a Scott Robinson single to left. Delta Cleary then brought Rose home with a sacrifice fly to center.

Playoffs begin on Wednesday September 9th at McCormick Field with the probable pitching match up of Juan Nicasio (9-3, 2.41) against Greenville's Stolmy Pimentel (10-7, 3.82). Tickets are available for all playoff games by contacting the front office.
