Hickory Crawdads News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Hickory Crawdads fell to the Kannapolis Intimidators, 4-1, before 2,050 fans in the 2009 regular season finale at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Monday afternoon. The two teams split the final series of the campaign, two games apiece.
The Intimidators (45-24, 82-57) got out to a 2-0 lead with unearned runs in the first and fifth innings against RHP Jake Brigham (2-11). Brigham did not surrender a single earned run in his final start, and scattered just three hits with four strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
After RHP Nevin Griffith (5-5) no-hit the Crawdads (30-40, 63-76) through the first five innings, Hickory got on the board in the top of the sixth and cut the Kannapolis lead down to 2-1. 1B Ed Koncel opened the frame with a double to left field, took third base on a ground out and scored on a passed ball.
RHP Carlos Pimentel kept the Intimidators at two runs through the seventh inning with 2.2 scoreless frames of work, but Kannapolis extended their lead to 4-1 with two tallies (one earned) against LHP Yoon-Hee Nam in the bottom of the eighth inning. 2B Daniel Wagner doubled to lead off the frame, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and came in on an RBI single by 3B Jon Gilmore. Gilmore then advanced all the way to third on an error, before coming home on a sacrifice fly by LF Luis Sierra, accounting for the final 4-1 score. Brigham was tagged with the loss for Hickory, while Griffith registered the win for Kannapolis.
