Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Nevin Griffith held Hickory hitless for five innings on Monday afternoon at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium to help the Intimidators to a 4-1 win over the Crawdads to close out the regular season.

Griffith retired the first 11 hitters in a row, before walking Vinny DiFazio with two outs in the fourth. The first hit did not come until the sixth, when Ed Koncel doubled to leftfield on the first pitch of the inning.

Griffith (5-5) finished off the sixth, allowing one run on two hits in his time on the slab. The right-hander also struck out four and walked one in his final start of the regular season.

The victory propelled the Intimidators to an 82-57 overall mark, their best record since becoming a White Sox affiliate in 2001. They finished the second half four games better than second-place West Virginia.

Jon Gilmore finished out the regular season strong, going 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Daniel Wagner also collected two hits, though the Intimidators were held to just six hits on the afternoon.

The Intimidators used three relievers in support of Griffith, with Santos Rodriguez, Dan Albritton and Kyle Bellamy going a scoreless frame. Bellamy picked up his second save of the season, getting the final three outs and a pair ok K's.

Kannapolis next hosts the Lakewood BlueClaws in the first round of the playoffs. Game 1 will be Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, as Charlie Leesman (13-5) takes on southpaw Matthew Way (4-1).
