Torres to Represent Knights in Triple-A All-Star Game

FORT MILL, S.C. - July 2, 2009 - Charlotte Knights pitcher Carlos Torres will be heading to the City of Roses for the All-Star break. Torres will be a part of the International League's All-Star team that will play against the Pacific Coast League in the Triple-A All-Star game in Portland, Oregon on July 15.

The 26-year-old right-hander is 7-4 with a 2.41 ERA with the Knights. He is tied for the International League lead in strikeouts amongst active players with 84 and his ERA is 7th best in the IL. Torres' 7 wins are tied for the third most in the IL. His season was highlighted with a 5-inning perfect game that he threw on June 18 at the Pawtucket Red Sox. Torres also set a single game career high in strikeouts on May 15 when he struck out 10 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankee hitters in just 6 innings.

Torres was a 15th round selection of the Chicago White Sox in the 2004 draft out of Kansas State. This is the second time Torres has been named to an All-Star team. In 2008, he was selected to the Southern League mid-season All-Star team while playing for the Double-A Birmingham Barons.

The Triple-A All-Star game will take place at PGE Park in Portland, Oregon on July 15 at 10 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
