Last Week

The Marlies continued their hunt for a playoff spot this past week, playing to a 3-0-0-0 record at home. The Lake Erie Monsters were the first to visit Ricoh Coliseum, joining the Marlies in their first ever Star Wars night. The two teams would play a closely contested game, taking a 1- 1 score into overtime. Greg McKegg, who had the Marlies first goal, would play hero in overtime scoring the game winner late in the extra frame. The next day brought the Rochester Americans to town for a 3:00 p.m. contest. The Marlies would emerge with a 4-1 victory with goals from William Nylander, Greg McKegg, Josh Leivo and Matt Frattin who scored the game winner and his 20th goal of the year. The Marlies would close out their three game week with the last school day game this season, bringing the Oklahoma City Barons to Ricoh Coliseum on Wednesday. The Marlies would find themselves down twice, but battled back, bolstered by a two goal performance from Byron Froese. In addition to a strong weekend of play, Froese was signed to an AHL contract by the Marlies for the 2015-16 season.

After leading the ECHL in scoring, Froese signed a tryout with the Marlies mid-season. Froese has since come into the Marlies line-up and been a consistent offensive force and responsible defensive player for the team

Look Ahead

Toronto has three meetings this coming week with playoff implications running high. First is a matchup with the Hamilton Bulldogs, the last ever regular season meeting between the two clubs. Toronto then heads to Rochester for a game against the Americans on Sunday. Lastly they host the Chicago Wolves on Wednesday for the first of two meetings between the clubs this year.
