Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the Marlies have assigned forwards Tyler Doig ("DOIG"), Joe Cooper, and Dan Rudisuela ("ROO dih SELL ah") to the Royals. In separate transactions, forward Michael Cohen and defenseman Dinos Stamoulis ("DEEN ohs STAH moo lis") have been released from professional tryout agreements with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL and have returned to the Royals. The Royals have also released forward Matt Bragg from his tryout agreement with the team. In separate transactions previously completed, the Royals: (i) loaned defenseman Kevin Schaeffer to the Binghamton Senators of the AHL; and (ii) traded the rights to forward Charlie Kronschnabel to the Bakersfield Condors for future considerations.

Last year in his rookie season, Doig (6'0/180) (22), who hails from Seaforth, Ontario, scored seven goals and assisted on twenty-two others (twenty-nine points) in thirty-eight regular season games with the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL. Doig's first goal as a pro proved to be a game winner as he scored the first two goals of the game for Columbia in a 3-0 win over the Trenton Devils on November 24, 2007. Doig, who was chosen to represent the Inferno in the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game in Stockton, California, was called up to the Toronto Marlies on January 25, 2008, where he remained until the conclusion of the regular season, scoring four goals and assisting on four others in twenty-four games. Doig's first goal in the AHL also proved to be a game winner on February 23, 2008, against the Binghamton Senators. Doig returned to the Inferno for the ECHL playoffs where he scored three goals and assisted on four others (seven points) in thirteen post-season games for Columbia. Prior to turning pro, Doig played 196 major junior games in the Ontario Hockey League with the Barrie Colts, Guelph Storm and Belleville Bulls, scoring seventy goals and assisting on 100 others (170 points) in three full seasons.

Last year, Cooper (6'0/200) (23), who hails from Toronto, Ontario, played the first five regular season games for the Inferno before sustaining an injury that kept him out of action until Columbia's playoff match-up against the South Carolina Stingrays in the South Division Finals in early May of 2008. Cooper, who was a seventh round pick of the Ottawa Senators in 2004, played four seasons with the Miami University (Ohio) RedHawks, where he was a part of the most successful class in school history. During Cooper's career at MU, the RedHawks won the Central Collegiate Hockey Association title once (2005-06) and went to the NCAA tournament three different times. In 145 college games, Cooper scored eight goals, assisted on fifteen others (twenty-three points) and racked up 231 penalty minutes.

Rudisuela (5'7/165) (25), who hails from St. Catharines, Ontario, will be entering his first year of pro after completing an outstanding Canadian university career at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 108 games with the Huskies, Rudisuela racked up 106 points (47g - 59a) and 133 penalty minutes. Rudisuela's most productive year was his third season at Saint Mary's when he led the Atlantic University Sport conference in goals (20) and points (45) and was chosen as the conference's Most Valuable Player. During that same year, Rudisuela also served as an alternate captain on Team Canada's gold medal winning club in the World University Games in Torino, Italy. At the conclusion of that season, Rudisuela was honored as a First Team All-Canadian, as well as an AUS conference First Team All-Star. In his fourth and final year at Saint Mary's, 2007-08, Rudisuela was selected as the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year and an Academic All-Canadian. At the conclusion of his career at Saint Mary's, Rudisuela was honored with the school's Godfrey Award in recognition of his on and off the ice leadership skills.

The Royals open the 2008-09 regular season against the Elmira Jackals on Friday, October 17, 2008 at First Arena in Elmira, New York. The Royals' home opener is set for Saturday, October 25, 2008, when the Johnstown Chiefs visit the Sovereign Center. Royals' full Season Tickets and Total Choice Flex Plans are now on sale.
