February 23, 2024 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Toronto FC News Release
Toronto FC announced today that the club has signed French defender Nicksoen Gomis from English club Sheffield United FC to a two-year deal through 2025 with options for 2026 and 2027. Gomis will be added to the roster pending the receipt of his medicals and the International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
"We are delighted to add Nicksoen to our club after a successful preseason trial," said Toronto FC General Manager Jason Hernandez. "Nicksoen quickly demonstrated his quality in defence and integrated seamlessly into our First Team environment. He arrives with a strong pedigree, having formative years at distinguished European platforms. We are confident he will continue to grow within the team over the 2024 season and beyond."
Gomis, 21, joins Toronto FC following a trial with the Club during the 2024 preseason. Prior to TFC, the defender originally joined the Sheffield United Academy in 2018 and represented the Blades at the U18 and U21 levels in Premier League Professional Development League and FA Youth Cup action. The centre-back went on loan to Beerschot VA (Belgium, Second Division) during the 2022-23 season, scoring two goals in 11 appearances for the club's U23 team and made his senior debut for the club against RWD Molenbeek on February 12, 2023. The Évreux, France native previously also spent time on loan with Bradford Park Avenue AFC in 2021, making seven appearances during the National League North season.
Internationally, Gomis has represented France at youth level and made two appearances for the French Under-18 team, including his debut against Paraguay U18 in August 2019.
