New England Revolution News Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The New England Revolution open the 2024 Major League Soccer season on Saturday night at D.C. United. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Audi Field and is FREE to watch on Apple TVin English and Spanish. Saturday's contest also airs locally on the radio via 98.5 The Sports Hub HD2, with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies on the call together for the fifth season, and 1260 AM "Nossa Radio USA" in Portuguese.

New England and D.C. United, two MLS original clubs, will meet for the 97th time in all competitions with the series even at 40 wins apiece, with 16 draws. The Revolution own a 9-1-0 record over the last 10 encounters, including three straight victories. New England swept the season series in 2023, outscoring D.C. by a 6-1 margin. Head Coach Caleb Porter, set to manage his first league game with New England, carries a 7-5-1 record against D.C. United. D.C. also enters the season with a new manager in former New York Red Bulls Head Coach Troy Lesesne, though Lesesne will serve a suspension on Saturday's match, leaving Assistant Coach Zach Prince at the helm. The Black-and-Red attack is highlighted by Belgian forward Christian Benteke, who netted 14 goals last year in his second MLS season. Before arriving in MLS, Benteke previously featured for Crystal Palace, Liverpool, and Aston Villa in England.

New England visits the nation's capital on the heels of a 1-0 win over CA Independiente in Leg 1 of Round One of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup in Panama on Wednesday night. Argentinian striker Tomás Chancalay provided the game-winning goal in the 55th minute, converting on forward Giacomo Vrioni's assist. In net, goalkeeper Henrich Ravas collected a shutout performance in his New England debut. He was aided by defender Nick Lima, also making his Revolution debut in the win, alongside Andrew Farrell and Dave Romney in central defense, and outside back DeJuan Jones rounding out the backline.

With a short turnaround from Wednesday's win to open the Champions Cup tournament, the Revolution could see a new-look lineup to open the league campaign. Two of New England's marquee forwards combined for the opening goal of the year as Tomás Chancalay converted on Giacomo Vrioni's headed assist. Chancalay, a 25-year-old from Argentina, paced the Revolution offense with six shots in Leg 1. Captain Carles Gil also started in the midweek match as he begins his sixth season with New England. The 2021 MLS MVP has reached double-digit assists in four of his five previous MLS seasons, including the last three in a row. Gil owns three goals and six assists in 10 career games played against D.C. United.

Two of the Revolution's up-and-coming Homegrown stars who enjoyed breakout campaigns in 2023 featured as substitutes against CAI on Wednesday. Noel Buck and Esmir Bajraktarevic, both 18, came off the bench to help close out the away win. Buck begins his third MLS campaign after logging 25 appearances, with 20 starts, in 2023. The England youth international was ranked fourth on the MLS 22 Under 22 list last season. Bajraktarevic provided a spark on the right wing in limited action on Wednesday. The Wisconsin native appeared in 13 games last season and collected his senior national team debut for the United States this January in a friendly against Slovenia.
