Toronto FC News Release
Toronto FC announced today that the club has loaned midfielder Liam Fraser to Columbus Crew SC for the remainder of the 2021 season. In exchange, TFC has acquired $50,000 in 2021 General Allocation Money (GAM). As per league rules Fraser will not be allowed to play for Columbus in games against Toronto during the duration of the loan period.
"Liam is a talented young player with an incredible work ethic," said Toronto FC General Manager Ali Curtis. "Development can occur in multiple ways, and we are happy that this presents a solution for Liam to potentially get meaningful first team minutes, and at the same time stay connected to TFC."
Fraser, 23, has appeared in two games for TFC in 2021. He has made 39 appearances in all competitions (MLS, Canadian Championship and Concacaf Champions League) since joining the first team. Fraser originally signed with Toronto FC as a Homegrown Player on January 19, 2018, becoming the 16th player in the club's history to sign for the first team from the Toronto FC Academy. He made his professional debut on April 14, 2018, against the Colorado Rapids.
Before joining the first team, Fraser played for Toronto FC II where he made 64 appearances in the USL, scoring two goals. He originally signed with Toronto FC II on February 10, 2016. He also represented Toronto FC III in the 69th Viareggio Cup during the 2017 season. Fraser was named captain of the team and appeared and started in all three group stage matches, registering two goals.
Fraser has earned four caps with the Canadian national team. He made his debut on October 15, 2019, when he came off the bench in a 2-0 win against the United States.
