Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC today announced that the Club has acquired Canadian 23-year-old midfielder Liam Fraser on a season-long loan from Toronto FC in exchange for $50,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) for the 2021 season, with Toronto FC retaining the player's rights following the conclusion of the loan. The midfielder has played for Toronto for the last four seasons and has represented the Canada National Team at the senior level.
"Having known Liam since he was an academy player in Toronto, he is a young, motivated and promis-ing competitor whose presence will help deepen our midfield roster during a congested season," said Crew SC President & General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. "We look forward to integrating him into our squad in Columbus while also helping him continue his professional development."
A product of the Toronto FC Academy, Fraser signed with TFC II on February 9, 2016 and went on to make 64 appearances (52 starts) across all competitions while registering two goals and five assists. The midfielder made his Toronto FC's First Team debut on March 30, 2018. To date, Fraser has made 33 regular-season appearances (20 starts) while providing one assist for Toronto FC.
At the international level, the midfielder has earned four caps with the Canada National Team, scoring one goal. Fraser made his debut in a 2019 Concacaf Nations League 2-0 win against the U.S. Men's National Team (October 15). He has also represented Canada at the Under-23 and U-20 levels, serving as a captain for both squads.
