Toronto FC Selects Juan Agudelo in MLS Re-Entry Draft
December 3, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Toronto FC News Release
Toronto FC announced today that the club has selected forward Juan Agudelo in Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft.
Agudelo, 27, has played nine seasons in MLS, making 222 appearances with 47 goals and 24 assists (regular season and playoffs). He spent the past six seasons with the New England Revolution. Prior to joining New England, Agudelo signed as a Homegrown player with the New York Red Bulls in 2010. He was later traded to Chivas USA in May 2012 and remained with the club until being traded to New England in May 2013. During the 2014 season, Agudelo made 14 appearances with three goals and three assists for Dutch club, FC Utrecht.
"Juan is a talented veteran player that we believe would add depth to our group of strikers," said Toronto FC General Manager Ali Curtis. "Selecting Juan in Stage 2 doesn't ensure that he will be with us next year. Selecting him effectively gives us the right to have a conversation and try to negotiate a contract. If we do not reach an agreement with Juan, then he will be made available to other MLS clubs."
Agudelo has earned 28 caps and has scored three goals during his career for the United States Men's National Team.
