Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Worcester, MA -- The Tornadoes bats erupted for three home runs in the 8th inning, turning a one-run game into a blowout, as Worcester evened the series at one win apiece with a 8-2 victory over the Brockton Rox at Hanover Insurance Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Brockton scored first, as Francisco Lebron launched a solo home run to center off Matt Weagle to put Brockton up 1-0. Worcester would tie it in the 4th on a two-out RBI single by Rico Santana, but Brockton reclaimed the lead in the top of the 5th on a two-out RBI single by Alex Nunez. But the Tornadoes would knot it back up at 2-2 in the bottom half of the 5th, using a Nunez error to score the tying run. Worcester went ahead to stay in the bottom of the 6th inning, when a Santana fielder's choice brought home Yohanny Valera to put the Tornadoes up 3-2. Worcester put the game away in the 8th when Patrick Perry ripped a long two-run home run to right off Rox lefty Bryan Morse (2-3) and then Andrew Wishy and Mike MacMillan went back-to-back off Kyle George, with Wishy's blast, a two-run shot, providing the final tally.

Chris Shank (2-0) picked up the win in relief of Matt Weagle with a scoreless 6th inning and Morse (2-3) took the loss. P.J. Bevis pitched the final three innings to record his 3rd save of the season. The Tornadoes improve to 5-3 in day games on the season. The Tornadoes have now gone back-to-back twice this year. The win snaps the Tornadoes season-long six-game home losing streak. The Tornadoes will look to take the series from the Rox when they send righty Alex Pena to the mound on Thursday night in the rubber game of their three-game home series against Brockton. The Rox will counter with righty Mike McTamney. First pitch is set for 7:05pm.
