"A-OK" Cools Off Cutters, 7-0, as Pride Prevail in Nashua

(NASHUA, NH, July 24, 2007) Nashua Pride righthander Akira Okamoto went the distance Wednesday afternoon allowing just five hits as the Pride blanked the New Haven County Cutter, 7-0, before a Camp Day crowd of 2,284 at Historic Holman Stadium. Okamoto struck out six and did not walk a batter in posting the first complete game shutout for the Pride in 2007. The victory snapped Nashua's five-game losing streak.

The Pride jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning against New Haven County starter and loser, Rolando Valles. Matt Creighton, Jermy Acey, Richard Giannotti, John Ramistella and Luis Rodriguez all had RBI's in the uprising. Acey later went on to hit his fourth home run of the season. Rodriguez wound up with three hits and two RBI's and Olmo Rosario had three hits for Nashua. Rosario currently leads the Can-Am League in hits with 83. He also leads the league in batting average at .362.

With his six strikeout effort today, Okamoto now has 85 on the season. It was Okamoto's second complete game of the season and his first shutout.

Henri Stanley had two of New Haven County's five hits in the game.

The rubber game of the series will be played Thursday night at 7:05. The Pride will send righthander Jason Kosow (1-3, 2.90) to the mound against New Haven County ace lefty Brad Whitworth (7-2, 1.49). The first two-thousand fans arriving at Historic Holman Stadium on Thursday night will receive "El Guapo" Bobble Bellies.
