Brockton Rox News Release

Worcester, MA (July 25, 2007) -- Worcester DH Patrick Perry ripped a two-run homer in the eighth inning against Rox starter LHP Bryan Morse as the Tornadoes crushed three eighth inning longballs to beat the Rox 8-2 in an afternoon affair in Worcester. Morse allowed five runs (three earned) in 7.1 innings but received little offensive help and defensive miscues helped to end a three-game Rox winning streak. The Rox and Tornadoes have each won a game of the three-game series and the loss drops Brockton to 5-4 in the second half. 1B Francisco Lebron hit his tenth homer of the season in the loss.

Lebron hit a solo shot off starter RHP Matt Weagle in the first inning but the Rox failed to capitalize on other chances early on in the contest. Weagle picked off two Rox runners at first base and the Rox did not score in the third inning despite putting runners at second and third with one out. The Tornadoes struck for a run in the fourth inning on a seeing-eye single between first and second off the bat off Rico Santana. The Rox retook the lead in the fifth when 2B Alex Nunez singled home DH Fredy De La Cruz, but the seesaw battled evened at two in the bottom of the inning when Nunez dropped a pickoff throw at second base, helping to lead to the second Tornado run.

In the sixth, back-to-back singles by Worcester 1B Yohanny Valera and Perry and a groundout by Santana put the Tornadoes in front 3-2. In the eighth, Perry smoked a two-run shot to knock Morse from the game, and RF Andrew Wishy and 3B Mike MacMillan went deep off RHP Kyle George to seal Worcester's victory. Nunez, Lebron, and De La Cruz all had multi-hit games for the Rox in the loss.

Thursday at 7:05 PM the teams play the final game of the season series, led by Worcester 5-4. RHP Mike McTamney (1-7, 3.38 ERA) starts for the Rox against Worcester RHP Alex Pena (4-4, 4.81 ERA).
