New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - Grays first baseman Jose Velasquez has recently been dubbed the "Jackals-Killer," and rightfully so. The night after he tied the game with a single in the bottom of the ninth, Velasquez sent two home runs well over the right field wall, finishing the night 2-3 with two homeruns and four RBI.

Mike Vicaro was on the hill for New Jersey, and despite his recent hot streak, not even he could put the Jackals back on a winning track. Vicaro finished his outing going seven innings, allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out four.

Offensively, the Grays got on the board early in the game thanks to an RBI single by catcher JB Tucker. The Jackals would answer in the top of the third inning, tying the game. With runners on second and third and no outs, first baseman Clyde Williams grounded into a fielders choice that scored center fielder Zack Smithlin. Despite the great scoring opportunity, the Jackals would not score another run in the inning.

The game went into the bottom of the fifth inning tied at one when the Grays blew the game open. Left fielder Chad Gabriel singled, driving in second baseman Josh Colafemina. Later in the inning Velasquez hit his first of two home runs, bringing in Gabriel as well.

The Jackals got a run back in the top of the sixth on an RBI double off the bat of designated hitter Sandy Madera, scoring Williams.

With the Jackals now within two runs, Velasquez came through in the clutch as he has all season against New Jersey, hitting his second homerun of the night. The two run blast off of Vicaro put the game away for good.

To further Velasquez's case as a "Jackals-Killer," all four homeruns by the first baseman this season have come against New Jersey.

Madera added a solo homerun in the top of the eighth, but the Jackals failed to establish an effective rally afterwards. The game ended with the score 6-3 in favor of the Grays.

Vicaro suffered the loss, losing to Grays starter Elliot Shaw. Jerry Dunn slammed the door in the ninth, picking up the save.
