Tornadoes Shut out 5-0 for Second Game in a Row
August 13, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release
The Jackals shut the Tornadoes out again 5-0 on Saturday night at Yogi Berra Stadium thanks to seven scoreless frames from Isaac Pavlik. The lefty hurler tied the Tornadoes' lefty ace ace, Zach Zuercher, for the league lead in wins (11-3).
Jared Locke pitched a couple of goose-egged innings, allowing only one baserunner. Kevin Cooper dropped to (5-3) with the defeat, going 3.2 innings and giving up three runs (all earned) on six hits, two walks and five strikeouts.
Nick Serino pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless ball, stranding a couple of inherited runners when he entered the game in the fourth. Matt McDonald and RIck Asadoorian each gave up a run in their respective outings to round out New Jersey's scoring.
The three-run third for the Jackals was all the home team would need. For the second night in a row, D'Angelo Jimenez put New Jersey on the board with an RBI single, this time plating Jordan Newton. Nick Santomauro and Mike DeJesus later scored in the frame on Kris Sanchez's two-run double.
The final game of the regular season between these teams is Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm. Zuercher will be on the mound for Worcester, with the season series tied at six games apiece.
