
Colonials Win Streak Snapped

PITTSFIELD, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials countered the Brockton Rox at every turn, answering the Rox scoring innings with a run of their own, but the Colonials traded two-for-one each time in a 6-3 setback.
Brockton scored two runs in the second inning on a triple by Tucker Nathans to score Dan Barbero. The throw to third to try to get Nathans went by Billy Mottram and Nathans would score to make it 2-0 Rox. Pittsfield would counter in the bottom of the inning on a sac fly by Quentin Davis to score Chris Torres and cut the lead to 2-1.
The Rox struck again in the seventh as a Barbero homer keyed a two run inning. The Colonials scored in the bottom of the frame on Scott Knazek's sixth homer of the year to make it 4-2.
Brockton once again tallied two in the eighth as Barbero struck again, doubling with the bases loaded. Pittsfield would answer in the bottom of the inning when Angel Molina drove home Danny Bomback with a double off the top of the wall in left to create the 6-3 final.
John Kelly (1-0) got the win for Brockton. Jake Hale eanred his 13th save with a perfect ninth. Chad Paronto (7-6) took the loss for Pittsfield.
There were some fireworks late in the game as after the final out of the top of the ninth inning, the benches cleared on a collision at home plate. No punches were thrown.
The rubber game of the series is on Saturday at 2 p.m. as a pair of lefties square off. David Qualben (5-5, 3.98) gets the start for Pittsfield against Dustin Birosak (6-1, 2.97) for the Rox. For tickets or information visit pittsfieldcolonials.com or call (413)-236-2961.
