Newark Bears News Release
Newark, NJ: The history and tradition of baseball in Newark is one of the finest throughout the country. Once a farm team for the New York Yankees, the Newark Bears won the 1937 Junior World Series with future Hall of Famer Joe Gordon as well as other baseball greats such as Charlie Keller, Spud Chandler, and George McQuinn. The Newark Eagles are also steeped in rich history as their 1946 team won the Negro League World Series with Hall of Famers Larry Doby, Leon Day, Monte Irvin, and Biz Mackey. Very few other cities can boast the silverware which the city of Newark has already won.
This season the Newark Bears have changed ownership and have welcomed Danielle Dronet and
Douglas Spiel as their new leaders. After establishing their own successful careers, Danielle and Doug
have taken over the Bears in order to breathe new life into the franchise. Although they have been
faced with a number of obstacles already this season, they remain committed to restoring the Bears to
their rightful place in baseball history.
Both partners remain committed to reestablishing a new brand of baseball in Newark, and are calling on the local community to come out and support the team. Boasting a roster filled with both major and minor league experience, the Bears are currently fighting for first place in the Canadian-American League. With the 'Dog Days of Summer' coming to a close, don't miss out on your chance to come out to Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium and support your Newark Bears.
