New Jersey Jackals News Release

Thursday evening was a fitting ending for the season series between the New Jersey Jackals and the Worcester Tornadoes. It was their sixth game decided by one run, and despite the Jackals fighting back in the ninth, the Tornadoes still got the best of them, 4-3.

Jackal starter Ryan Pacyna struck out three batters through his first two innings of work, but in the third, he struggled against the Worcester lineup. Dominic Ramos ripped a two-RBI double down the third base line, and Patrick Perry collected a bloop RBI single to center, giving the Tornadoes a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, New Jersey drew to within one. With two outs, and runners at the corners, Guillermo Reyes singled to left-center field, making the score 3-2. But a two-out RBI double by Rico Santana would help Worcester get one of those runs back to take a 4-2 lead.

The Jackals fought back one more time in the bottom of the ninth. Guillermo Reyes reached on a fielder's choice allowing Clyde Williams to score from third. It made the score 4-3. But with the bases loaded and two outs, Francisco Leandro flied out to right field to end the game.

Pacyna suffered his first loss of the season. He surrendered four earned runs in five innings, on seven hits. He walked two and struck out a season high of five.

Despite not factoring in the decision, Worcester's Ryan Mitchell was strong his first start of '07. In four innings, he tossed 50 pitches leading to just one Jackal hit.

The win was awarded to Chris Shank

John Birtwell notched the save by recording the final out of the ballgame.
