Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque will have to wait another day for a chance to clinch the Central Division title after losing to Nashville 10-2 on Sunday night in front of an Isotopes Park record 13,380 fans.
The Sounds broke the game open early, scoring nine runs in the first four innings and chasing starter Justin Wayne. Wayne (4-12) allowed six runs on five hits in 3.1 innings, including two home runs to J.J. Davis. Davis hit his first homer of the night in the first for a 2-0 lead and another in the third. The deficit increased to 9-1 in the fourth, when Dave Doster hit a grand slam off reliever Oswaldo Mairena as part of a six run fourth inning.
Matt Erickson continued his hot hitting for Albuquerque, recording three more hits, including an RBI single in the seventh inning. Jason Wood drove in the other Isotopes run in the first on a ground out.
Albuquerque (74-69) gets another chance to clinch tomorrow afternoon in the regular season finale. A scheduled doubleheader between Omaha and Colorado Springs today was rained out, so the Sky Sox are one game back heading into tomorrow's action. The Isotopes can clinch with either a win over Nashville or a loss by Colorado Springs in tomorrow's doubleheader with Omaha. Aaron Small will get the start for the âTopes.
