Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Paul Clemens allowed one unearned run in 6 2/3 innings, and the Oklahoma City RedHawks won their 14th consecutive game at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, 5-1, over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Saturday night.
The RedHawks extended its lead to five games over the Isotopes in the PCL's American Southern division, with 16 games left in the regular season. The RedHawks' magic number to clinch the division is 12.
Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, the RedHawks had four consecutive two-outs hits off Topes starter Angel Castro (8-4) to take a 3-1 lead. Carlos Perez's bloop double scored two runs and Ruben Sosa's single up the middle plated the final run. Those were the only runs Castro gave up in six innings. Castro scattered nine hits, walked three and struck out two.
Oklahoma City tacked on two more runs in the eighth off Javy Guerra, combined two singles, two walks, a passed ball and a sacrifice fly.
The only Isotopes run scored in the first inning. Matt Angle walked, went to second on a passed ball, to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on Alex Castellanos' grounder to short that went under the glove of Jimmy Paredes for an error.
The Topes (67-61) managed four hits in the game, all singles. Chili Buss and Eliezer Alfonzo had back-to-back singles in the fourth and ninth innings. At one point, four RedHawks' pitchers combined to retire ten in a row and 15 of 16 hitters.
Albuquerque is 4-12 in August and 11-19 since the All-Star Break.
Game three of the five-game series is Sunday night. Matt Palmer starts for Albuquerque. Asher Wojciechowski goes for Oklahoma City. All the action can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call. Coverage begins at 4:35 Mountain Time and first pitch at 5:05.
