Tucson Padres News Release
The Padres fell to four games back of the Southern Division lead Friday after the Sacramento River Cats defeated Tucson 5-3 at Raley Field.
Daric Barton tripled with one out in the bottom of the first and Shane Peterson's RBI groundout drove him in to put the River Cats ahead 1-0. Former Tucson and San Diego Padre Andy Parrino added to Sacramento's lead in the second with a two-out RBI single and Michael Choice's RBI hit the following inning made it 3-0 River Cats.
The Padres scored their first run of the game in the fourth when Ben Francisco hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Brandon Allen, who reached base on a triple to start the inning. Daniel Robertson picked up his 12th outfield assist of the season in the fifth by throwing out Peterson trying to score from second on a hit to right. Dean Anna came around to score on a fielding error in the sixth to bring Tucson within one run of the lead. Sacramento added two insurance runs in the eighth on Michael Taylor's sacrifice fly and Ryan Ortiz's RBI single. Scott Moore smacked a leadoff home run in the ninth to cut the deficit to 5-3, but Brian Gordon closed out the win for the River Cats with three strikeouts.
Travis Banwart earned his ninth win after scattering four hits and only one earned run in six innings. Anthony Bass was charged with the loss for Tucson after allowing three runs on eight hits in five innings of work.
