High Desert Mavericks News Release
ADELANTO, Calif. - The High Desert Mavericks, Advanced-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, have a third player, Outfielder Ryan Cordell, who will be recognized as an All-Star on the California League roster for the 2015 California vs. Carolina League All-Star Game presented by WaBa Grill. Cordell will join Mavericks teammate, Catcher Alex Burg, for the 7:35 p.m. game on Tuesday, June 23 in Rancho Cucamonga, CA at LoanMart Field.
"Ryan is another one of the Texas Rangers top prospects that you can see play at Heritage Field this summer," said Ben Hemmen, General Manager of the Mavericks. "His versatility on the field and power at the plate make his future in professional baseball very bright."
Ryan Cordell, Texas Rangers No. 12 prospect, is leading the Cal League in at-bats with 247, and is second in the league in hits with 76. Cordell, a California-native, is just shy of top 10 hitters in the league with a solid .308 batting average for the first half of the 2015 season. He is also in a three-way tie for second in home runs with 13 alongside Visalia's Kevin Cron and Bakersfield's Tyler O'Neill.
"I am honored to be named an All-Star," said Cordell. "It's great to be recognized for the hard work I have put in this year. So many people have played a huge role in getting me to where I am today and I want to thank my family, my teammates, coaching staff, and the Texas Rangers for all of their support."
Cordell will be representing the Mavericks as an outfielder. He played the last month as a centerfielder before shifting roles to third base when teammate Lewis Brinson recently made his return from the disabled list. Ryan is expected to be the starting third baseman the remainder of the first half of the season.
The 2013 11th-rounder from Virginia's Liberty University was added to the California League All-Star roster after Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, Advanced-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, starting All-Star catcher Kyle Farmer was promoted to Dodgers Double-A affiliate, the Tulsa Drillers. Stephen McGee of the Inland Empire 66ers, Advanced-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, will replace Farmer as catcher in the starting lineup.
The Mavericks continue their four-game set tonight at Heritage Field against San Jose. Tonight, fans can enjoy Friday Fireworks immediately following the game. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. PST. For tickets and more information, fans can visit HDMavs.com or call the front office at 760-246-6287.
